Inside at last

If in that moment the girl had proved to be another attacker the gate would have fallen. The guards stood so awe struck that they probably would not have noticed if she had turned on them. However, she did not and the gate opened and the girl was admitted.

With the air of supreme confidence Dauphin strode towards the town. She had no doubt that news of the attack on the walls would reach the castle before her, and if nothing else at least she would make an impression upon the King!

Meanwhile she could hear the sound of footsteps chasing behind her.
