"I'm glad you came out to dinner, Brian!" Janet exclaims. A beautiful woman is glad to see you. Married or not, what a rush it is! You sat down at her bare table and she smiled. "There's someone I'd like you to meet, Brian." Nervous anticipation bleeds from you immediately. Your heartbeat and inner questioning voices almost drowned out what she said next. "Would you mind if she joined us for dinner?"
You manage to choke out what resembled a "Yes," but it is more implied by your nodding head than whatever noise just came from your mouth. You watched Janet turn her head and look downward, her pearl earrings shining in the sunset glow.
She raises a cell phone to her ear, "Fiona," she says, "come join me for dinner." She listens to a reply, then replies herself, "No, put him in his cage for the night. He deserves some time alone to think." She listens to Fiona speak and they laugh together; you smile along. "Get dressed and come on down. I have someone here you'll like." She whispers into the phone but you can still hear, "He's cute!" You blush again and look away, trying to hide it from Janet. Janet puts her phone away and turns to you, "She'll be here in twenty minutes. Her name's Fiona; I think you'll like each other."
You and Janet converse while they wait for Fiona to arrive, turning away two separate waiters so all three could dine at once. The minutes roll by and your smalltalk eases your anxiety about meeting this mysterious Fiona. The whole "You'll like each other," statement overpowers your thoughts suddenly, weakening you. An awkward pause, you look at your watch.
