Matt finally wakes up form his constant worshipping of Joey's gut and emerges into Ms. Laplant's questioning zone. He turns toward the counsellor and says "Hi, I’m Matt."
"Come into my office," replies Ms. LaPlant. She shows Matt into an office furnished very simply, with a wooden desk with a good office chair behind it, and two very broad, strong armless chairs in front. "Have a seat, Matt, and we'll get you started here," she says kindly, then shuts the door.
"You're not used to being around other fat boys," she says gently once the door was closed.
"No ma'am," replies Matt.
"I can tell by the way Joey's belly fascinated you - new boys often find the fatter of their classmates irresistible to watch, and of course, once you've been here a while, you'll be so proud of your girth you'll want to show it off," Ms. Laplant observed.
"How..how long has Joey been here?" Matt asked.
"This is his fifth year, he started here in grade five. He's in your class, you know - grade nine. He's a bit bigger than you are," she added, grinning.
"Just a bit!" Matt replied in a like tone. "A bit like, a hundred pounds maybe."
"Yes," replied Ms. Laplant. "But, since you're here, clearly getting bigger like Joey is in your future too."
"Really?" Matt asked in disbelief. "You mean...kids aren't here to lose weight?"
"No, no," chuckled Ms. Laplant. "That's a common misconception among new students. No, we're fat-friendly and growth-positive here at OSB. Were you teased about your size at your old school?"
"Oh yeah," replied Matt instantly.
"Well, the only teasing you may take here is about being too small. Tell me, Matt, do you like to eat?"
"Oh yeah, except my Dad always has me on diets."
"Really? We'll have to check that. But, in the meantime, the rule here is, no diets. Eat as much as you like! We only ask that you get some veggies and fruit everyday, and report to the school nurse and doctor for check-ups as scheduled."
"No diets?"
"No diets. In fact, many of our students take pride in how much they gain here at OSB. Joey's one of those - ask him, he'll tell you all about it."
"I'm going to like this place!"
"I'm sure you will. Now, here's a class schedule, and a room key, and a map of the school. I'll just take you out and find someone to take you to your new room." Ms. Laplant opened the door again. "And, if there's anything we can do to make your stay here better, just let me know. Now, who can I ask...."
Ms. Laplant asks....
