Emma's Dad is home momentarily

"Hi, Dad," Emma said brightly. "You're home pretty early."

"Yeah," Emma's dad said. "But I have to go back to work in a few minutes. Just came home to get a few supplies."

Emma sighed. She was going to be home alone for a while, then.

"Listen, Em. Why don't you invite one of your friends over while I'm gone?" her dad asked. "That way you won't be so bored."
