Eric gazed around the colossal laboratory.
Tables, counters and other equipment
towered above him like some alien world's
massive architecture.
"It worked!" Eric exclaimed. He listened to the
strange, high nature of his voice at his
reduced size.
He estimated he was only an inch tall. That
had been his goal. He was glad that not only
could his device shrink things, but it could
also be calibrated to shrink them to a specific
size.
He stood still on the platform. He had
programmed the device to reverse the
shrinking automatically.
The device began to hum...then sputter and
crackle!
"What the hell?"
Sparks flew overhead like fireworks. Then, just
as the beam's focusing lens began to glow, it
went suddenly dark.
Eric began to feel a sinking feeling in the pit of
his stomach.
Something had gone very, very wrong.
Eric stared up at the distant control panel. To
reach the controls would be a challenge equal
if not surpassing the scaling of a vertical cliff.
