Chapter #4

Clean Sweep

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
As the oncoming wall rushed at him, Eric had little time to think. But, he was able to time just right a leap that landed him against a single bristle in the giant broom. He hung onto the bristle so tightly that his tiny knuckles turned white. If he fell, the broom would sweep over him...or the janitor pushing the broom would step on him.

The bristle was only about two inches long, but that was was like holding onto a 24-foot-long strand. Bits of dust and shreds of grit and paper were pushed ahead of the broom. Some of the stray objects pelted Eric's tiny body. He didn't know how much longer he could hold on.

Suddenly, the broom lifted. A squarish metal surface appeared beneath him. The broom moved forward slightly. Eric saw the janitor's mammoth hand holding a metal handle that attached to a large receptacle. He recognized the object as a dust pan.

Suddenly, he lost his grip. He fell what seemed like 20 feet, landing hard in the dust pan among assorted other items of litter. Suddenly, with stomach-lurching acceleration, the janitor's huge hand lifted the dust pan, along with the bug-sized man, far into the air.

The colossal man took a few steps toward a trash can. The trash can looked 500 feet tall and more than 100 feet in diameter.

"He's gonna trash me!" Eric exclaimed.

But, suddenly, all motion stopped. Eric slid across the surface of the dust pan. The janitor had placed the dust pan on a countertop. He picked up a phone.

"He's making a call." Eric realized. "I've got to get out of this dust pan."

He began running toward the open end of the dust pan, past lumps of dust, paper and boulder-sized bits of dirt.

"I've got to hurry..."

He ran desperately. He dared a look up. The giant was holding the phone receiver in his hand.

The giant frowned. He began to hang up the phone.

"No!" Eric made a final dash, trying to get off the dust pan.

You have the following choices:

1. Eric escapes from dust pan onto countertop

2. Eric doesn't quite escape the dust pan in time
