Eric, in a move born of desperation, dropped on his knees in the sawdust shavings lining the bottom of the cage. "Please, wait," he squeaked.
Scott's expression rearranged itself into a pleased smirk. "Yes, little man?"
"Please, you've got to help me," Eric said. "I'll give you an A in the class. Whatever you want?"
Scott considered the offer. "Anything, huh?"
"Please, yes, anything," Eric said. "Just return me to the lab and let me reverse the shrink ray's effects!"
"Tell you what." Scott straightened to his full height and peered into the tank. "I still have to meet my buddies, but I will think it over."
"Can you take me out of this cage?" Eric asked.
Scott shocked him by whistling loudly. "Oh, that cage is for your own protection."
A moment later, in response to Scott's whistle, a large dog padded into the room. Well, it might have been more accurate to say mammoth by Eric's current standards. The dog looked bigger than a dinosaur to the shrunken scientist in the cage.
Scott laughed. "I wouldn't try to get out of that cage, professor," warned the college student. "Max loves to chew up anything he can get hold of."
Eric swallowed in alarm. His eyes widened as he looked toward the scary-looking canine.
"Later, professor," Scott said, turning his back and leaving the room. Eric watched the door swing closed, the dog still in the room. He watched the dog quietly until the large animal turned a few circles and settled for a nap on a rug near the door.
