Eric gazed around his now enormous laboratory. Tables, desks and his high-tech equipment towered above him like some strange high-rise architecture.
"I've done it!" Eric exclaimed. He listened to the shrill nature of his voice at his reduced size.
He estimated he was only about three inches tall. That had been his goal. He was pleased that not only could his device shrink things, but it could also be calibrated to shrink them to a specific size.
He stood motionless on the platform. He had programmed the device to reverse the shrinking automatically.
The device began to hum in preparation for restoration. Suddenly, the hum changed to a sputtering, crackling noise.
"What's happening?"
Sparks flew overhead like a fireworks show.He gazed up at the beam's glowing focusing lens which went suddenly dark.
Eric began to feel a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.
How could this have happened?
Eric stared up at the distance control panel. To reach the controls would be a challenge equal if not surpassing the scaling of the walls of a tall building.
