Will couldn't stand Ryder, arrogant pretentious wealthy pig.

All right, he maybe didn't mind the pretentious bit. But Ryder made him look stupid, and he was malicious and unpredictable. He got that sociopath glint in his eye, and Will would get scared. He felt like Ryder might do anything, but didn't know what, and that, he'd explained to Scout, was what bothered him. If he didn't know what Ryder would do, he couldn't plan how to react.

Will liked to keep a handle on things.

Ryder didn't give him as much grief as, say, Ham or Harry Johnson - Will and Scout sincerely pitied Harry for being stuck as Ryder's room mate - but those two losers were just born to be school victims.

Still, Will avoided Ryder whenever possible, and this time, he got away from him as soon as he could.
