As intriguing as it would be for Celes to explore a deep rooted fantasy of hers, she knew now was not the time. Simply because peace had been declared and the Empire was demilitarizing didn’t mean that there was magically no unrest. The world had been at war. Simple apologies would do nothing to alleviate the tension. And as the sole surviving general of the now disbanded military, and publicly known as the one who led the attack on Maranda, Celes was… not well liked. If the public saw her turning into a whale, they would be outraged.
“How can she stuff her face like that when we’re trying to rebuild?” they would say. Celes even feared that she couldn’t stay for too long in one spot, once again due to the… less than favorable opinion of her. In reality, she was waiting for her last payment before leaving Vector altogether. She wanted to make a fresh start for herself somewhere outside the Empire, away from the cold persona of General Celes Chere.
And what had happened to the girl? There had been no traces of her after the lightning strike, so she was either vaporized from being directly struck by the lightning, or she had somehow escaped. Celes honestly felt like it was the latter: unlike anyone else in the world, the girl possessed natural magic. Celes had no idea how different natural magic was from her Magitek infusions, but she felt that it wasn’t too farfetched that it could activate on instinct. Still, though, they had found remnants of a Slave Crown, one of which the girl had been wearing…
“Never mind that,” Celes said to herself. “I have a boat to catch.”
Indeed, Celes had a boat to catch. She was headed south to Albrook to catch a boat to South Figaro, where hopefully she would make her fresh start.
