Chapter #2

The Beginning

    by: sabby
Out on the plains of Haran, he stood out amongst the growing herd of dragons, his eyes taking in all he could. He would try to remember every moment, every detail to bring back to his friends in Juret. Good lord, but they were big! How magnificent they looked against the backdrop of never ending grass.

One of the dragons, a smaller dark red one, with iridescent scales covering her back, turned to him and lowered her head so that her right eye was level with him. The secondary scales covering over her eyelid were a brilliant orange, shining in the morning light like jewels.

"You, human, are truly blessed today aren't you? For you see the gathering of the Dragon worlds, readying ourselves for the annual migration to the caves. Truly a sight that not many of your kind has witnessed from the ground!"

He nodded slowly, afraid to show too much excitement or ignorance of what he was seeing. His presence here was tolerated by the dragons, not welcomed. Dragons were a solitary sort, and also very independent. They needed no other race to depend on for anything. They were the kings of their realm.

He thought for a moment that the proper thing to do would be to show reverance to the small female. He toyed with how this should be done, a bow perhaps? a Nod of deference? The female cocked her head slightly to one side as she watched him contemplate this newfound idea.

"For sure human, your knowledge of us is limited. However, I appreciate just the mere fact you wish to show respect towards us in some manner."

The man looked up, startled that the dragon knew what he was thinking.

"How do you know this?" He asked quietly, looking up into her liquid eye, watching the fire swirl in the pupil, entranced by the simple beauty.

The dragon smiled, in the way that dragons do, winked her eye, and turned away. "You will learn much about us in the months to come human. Learn and understand us, and then you will know."
