Alan hung on tight to the boys shoe as the boy starts walking, carrying the book with one hand and the dogs leash with the other. Alan hoped the huge Golden Lab would not see or smell him on the boys shoe. After two blocks, the boy turned up a sidewalk and went to the backyard and tied up the dog next to a doghouse. He went in the backdoor and stopped to hang up the dogs leash in a mudroom so Alan thought he better jump off before the kid saw him.
Alan quickly hid behind a broom while the boy went through the next door and started yelling "Dad, I'm home!".
Alan looked around the mudroom and saw typical items such as cleaning fluids, washer and dryer, and shoes and boots laying on the floor. He walked over to some huge black boots that tipped over and Alan looked inside one of them. It smelled of fresh foot odor and was still warm. He looked at the tag inside and it said "size 13". Wow, Alan thought, these must belong to a big guy. Alan walked around the boot and looked at the soles which had large rubber lugs with some pebbles embedded in between them. He wondered how many bugs and leaves and twigs had been crushed under these huge boots.
Since Alan was 8 inches tall, he had to be careful not to be seen since hiding was not easy at that size. Alan heard walking in the kitchen which was right through the door. He walked up to the door frame and peeked around the corner to check out who was in the kitchen.
As Alan peeked, he saw a tall, short brown haired, muscular man. He guessed he was in his late twenties, 6 foot 3 or 6 foot 4, and must be the boys dad.
"Brian, your lunch is ready" he yelled out as Brian came running in and sat at the table ready to eat. The very hunky man, wearing gray sweat pants, yellow tee shirt with some writing on it, a white backwards ball cap with a "B" on it, and very large athletic shoes, brought Brian a sandwich over to him.
The magic book was on the kitchen table Alan saw. He did not know what to do next.......
