With your back to the wall, you begin to edge around this enclosure of giants. They are all busy at their work, hunched over their desks, furiously scribbling. The only sound that worries you is the occasional thud as an enormous foot is restlessly moved, or the rhythmic thumping of the invigilators on their patrols.
The nearest chair is at least a hundred and fifty feet distant from you, and there's no reason for anyone to glance down in your direction. You're perfectly safe.
As you pass by each behemoth in turn, your memories of them as you once knew them rise in your head. Scant hours ago these people were the same as you, now they're unknowable, unbelievably powerful giants. You feel so pathetic.
Your journey takes a while. Not only is it a huge distance that you must cover, but you're not travelling as quickly as you could have been. The monsters would be more likely to spot a small scurrying creature, and more likely then to tread on it.
It is with no small measure of relief that you reach the corner of the room. But even as you pause to take a rest, the noises increase.
The towering shapes that dominate the landscape become even taller as the giants get to their feet, ready to leave now that the exam is at an end. You watch them walk, each step shaking the earth.
They have all left in a remarkably quick time, considering their sheer bulk. Alone now, you can come out of hiding.
The desks haven't been moved, and you didn't see anybody collect the exam papers. Presumably an official will come in to retrieve them shortly. You could wait for such a person to show, or try and make a bid to escape now.
