It's not far, as the crow flies. And fly it does, as the shadow of some winged creature falls over you during your journey. Looks like the bird has come back for desert.

You're not sure if you can outrun a hungry bird in your current state; maybe diving into the bushes would be better? But if you can just make it for a few minutes, you'll reach the shelter of the house, and safety.
