You have a bad habit. Whenever your alarm clock goes off and wakes you up, you smash it. You don't even make a decision consciously, it's just a reflex or something. After going through 4 alarm clocks in a single week, you came up with a solution: put the alarm clock on a table on the other side of the room. That's been working pretty good so far. You haven't smashed a single alarm clock (although the spot on your dresser where your old alarm clocks went has taken quite a beating). Today, though, your method failed you.
BEEP BEEP BEE-
KZZZAAARRRRPPP!
You roll out of bed, stand up, and pause. KZZAARRPP? That noise isn't part of my morning routine.... You look over at your table. Right where your alarm clock used to be, there's a big black mark on the table. You lean in to look closer and notice that it smells like burnt wood.
You think through the last few minutes. I was sleeping, then the alarm clock went off, and then...
You stretch out your hand towards your trash can and concentrate.
PSSSHHHHOOOOWW!
A beam of light shoots from your hand and blasts the trash can. It flips up into the air, slinging wadded up paper, half of an old sandwich, and a broken pencil onto your carpet. You try again.
KER-ZZAAAPP! PA-CHING! ZZZZOOOOWW!
The trash can flies up into the air again, and you hit it twice in midair, juggling it. It lands in the middle of your bed. You grab it to put it back on the floor.
"YOW!"
You quickly drop the trash can. That thing's HOT! You put on your shoes, then nudge it with your foot until it is off the bed and in the corner again.
After cleaning up the mess that you made, you get dressed and go to school. Since your teachers are all droning on and on, you end up sleeping through most of your classes.
The final bell rings and you burst from the building. As you're walking back to your house, you notice a little girl playing ball in her yard. Her ball bounces out into the street and she runs after it without looking. Oh no! A car is headed right for her!
