You head west on the ledge, hugging the wall of rock to your right. It's not that being up so high above the canyon floor scares you, but there are no guard rails to protect you from falling off the left of the trail. One slip could be fatal.
There is the sound of pebbles falling next to you and you flinch, fearing a rockslide, but it's only a small animal scrambling away. You don't recognize the species of the critter, but then you don't recognize anything else either.
You haven't gone very far when you look over the edge and see a boat tied up on the riverbank far below. Someone is getting into the boat. They are dressed like you in straw-colored shorts and shirt. "Hey!" you yell. "Hey! Up here!" But the wind whips your words away and the little figure down below does not look up. There is no way to climb down to the boat. You decide to keep walking.
You walk for several hours before you find a small spring bubbling out of the rocks. You satisfy your thirst. Now, if you only had something to eat.
As if in answer to your wishes, you discover a tree covered with yellow fruit. It's nothing you are familiar with, but when you bite into one, it tastes juicy and sweet. You fill your pockets and keep walking.
Eventually, the sun completes it's trip across the sky and you know it will be getting dark soon. You are tired, but not exhausted.
