It was another day of hard, gruesome training for the Lin Kuei warrior, who was feeling at crossroads for what her next goal should be. Having earned the unique position of being trained by none other than Sub-Zero, she felt she needed and was destined for bigger and better challenges, to the point she fantasized at times with betraying her mentor and taking over as the new Grand Master of the clan.
Such a task would be foolish to attempt for now however, she knew that as much as her fighting skill and freezing powers increased under the personalized training she still needed more experience, and more importantly, other qualities needed in a clan leader like the ability to forge alliances and create better strategies. Those were the kind of skills that her peculiar training wasn't going to cover, and that she most likely wouldn't learn in an isolated clan full of inferior warriors that both despised and feared her power.
And to be fair, she didn't even know if that was what she truly wanted to do, because deep down she knew the motives behind her ambition weren't strong enough. Her mentor bored her constantly with worthless lessons about humility that she couldn't care less about, but she didn't hate him and in fact appreciated the way his teachings turned her into the second most powerful warrior in the entire clan. And she also didn't care about the clan itself in particular to destroy it, or risk becoming a pariah among her own group for her actions. All she wanted was more renown one way or the other, to increase her reputation to the level her skills deserved, and if there was a better way to do so without betraying her clan, she would probably consider it at least.
And to her surprise, that golden opportunity came thanks to the mortal kombat tournament, when Sub Zero was recruited to defeat the powerful sorcerers Quan Chi and Shang Tsung and her grand master told her she would also participate. It was the perfect storm to validate everything she needed, how her skills fared in actual battle, where her allegiances truly lied, and which path to take in order to get what she so desired.
