Chapter #3

A Funeral?

by: Black After Author IconMail Icon
“The poor man,” Gomez said as he shook his head in self-depreciation. “I should have seen that he was no match for me.”

“Gomez, Darling, you mustn’t blame yourself. Just look at this armor,” she said, gesturing to the heavy plating that still hid the mysterious knight's face and body. It was dark, menacing and made the knight look like some sort of demon. “Really, he should have known better. Misrepresentation can be a very dangerous thing.”

Gomez sighed. “That’s true... but I should have controlled myself. It’s just...” His brows furrowed as he spoke. “To hear your name on another man’s lips... Oh, Querida Mia!”

“Querido,” Morticia answered as Gomez began trailing kisses up her arm.

         “It made me lose control.”

Fester, who had been checking the vital signs of the fallen knight, cut into the embracing couple’s exchange. “Well, he’s dead, alright,” he said with a half-smile. “You got him right through the heart!”

The pride in Fester’s voice was not so subtle, and Gomez was quick to correct. “Really, Old Man, he practically leapt onto my blade... I can hardly take the credit.”

Morticia smiled. “Oh, Gomez. You’re so modest.”

“Well,” Gomez’s sullen look was quickly replaced by an enormous smile. “I had been hoping that something exciting would happen today. And there aren’t many things that can top a funeral!”

“A funeral!” Fester echoed in delight.

         “Now, Fester...” Morticia began.

“Did somebody say ‘a funeral’?!” Wednesday and Pugsley chirped in unison as they stumbled into the room in excitement.

         “Children...” continued Morticia.

Gomez was about to reiterate his enthusiasm when he noticed Morticia was trying to speak. “What is it, Cara Mia?”

“Before we have another unmarked grave in our lovely cemetery, I want to be sure that this man actually is a stranger.”

“Ah, I agree completely!” said Gomez, already reaching for his sleuth hat. “We’ll have a full investigation into the identity of our... guest... Then we’ll have the funeral!”

Morticia nodded. “As it should be.”

You have the following choices:
