Note: This story takes place just after the events of the last episode of Zeo, Good as Gold, and more specifically the Rangers’ growing into giants at the end of the episode when they battled Mondo!
Late one afternoon at the Youth Center, Kat was sitting at one of the tables alone. She looked like something was bothering her, almost as if she’s nervous about what she’s about to do. A few moments later, Tanya walked in. Spotting Kat, she smiled and walked over toward her table.
“Hey girl!” Tanya said warmly. “You said you wanted to talk alone right? Everything ok?"
"I….guess so." said Kat, but in a somewhat strained manner.
"That didn't sound too convincing." Tanya replied as she took a seat across from her at the table. "What's up?"
"Look, I can tell you anything right?"
"Of course Kat! You're my best friend!" Tanya replied emphatically.
"Okay." Kat nodded nervously, taking a more hushed tone. "I just…..look, have you been having weird dreams at all lately? Since the fight with Mondo?"
"Oh my god, you too?! I thought I was going crazy!" Tanya replied, her eyes going wide. "It's always the same! I'm huge again just like I was when the Gold Ranger grew us!"
"Yes!" Kat replied, her facial expression totally changing now. She seemed more than a little relieved to know someone else is going through the same thing as her. "I keep dreaming about growing again too! It's so weird, because I grew once before when I was under Rita's control but I never dreamt about it afterwards like this. I mean it's happening every night! And I daydream about it too- sometimes I just close my eyes and I’m instantly thinking about becoming a giant again!”
"Well, at least we're both going through the same thing." said Tanya, as Kat nodded. "Maybe the last time you grew it didn't have this kind of effect on you because you were just a brainwashed monster. I mean I wasn't there but you've told me about it- you were some kind of….cat thing, right?"
"I know, a cat because my name is Kat, so original." said Kat as she made a little face. "But maybe it's different this time because I was really me when I grew, you know? All I know is, Tanya, in the dreams…..I like being big."
"Me too!" Tanya nodded emphatically. "I mean, we're normally Power Rangers and the Zeo crystal is incredible, but it’s not the same kind of power. There’s just something about being so huge. Having experienced it once…."
"I just want to do it again so bad!" Kat exclaimed suddenly, a little too loudly, causing other patrons of the juice bar to look at her strangely. "I'm sorry." Kat said sheepishly as Tanya gave her an are-you-serious look. "But like, Tanya…..do the dreams feel kind of…."
"Sexy?" Tanya asked, causing both of them to blush. "Yeah…."
"We're so bad!" said Kat as she squirmed in her chair out of embarrassment.
"I wonder if the guys feel the same way?" said Tanya, thinking for a moment.
"Who knows." Kat replied. "Men are used to feeling strong, right? It's different for women."
"Right." Tanya agreed. "To be gigantic again, have the whole world literally at our feet…."
"I'd do anything." said Kat dreamily, as Tanya quickly nodded in agreement.
Anything, huh? came a very familiar, gruff voice in both girls' minds.
Both of them tensed up immediately.
"Lord Zedd!" Katherine exclaimed, standing up out of her chair in a fighting stance.
"Where are you?!" Tanya practically yelled as she does the same.
Girls, girls, girls, relax! came the voice of Rita, also in their minds. We're where we always are, up on the Moon! That’s the magic of telepathy, hahaha!
Yes, only the two of you can hear us. Zedd agreed. So you might want to sit down because even from all the way up here we can see that you both look quite ridiculous right now!
Kat and Tanya embarrassingly looked around and realized nearly everyone else in the Youth Center was looking at them like they’re crazy, and slowly sat back down.
“Well what do you want?” Kat finally said quietly.
Yes, no need to yell, we can hear you just fine! Zedd laughed in their minds.
What we WANT for once, my dears, is the exact same thing the two of YOU want! Rita exclaimed.
“I somehow have a hard time believing that.” said Tanya through gritted teeth.
Well, believe it Yellow Ranger! Rita laughed.
We want to make your dreams come true! added Lord Zedd. Specifically the dreams the two of you have about becoming gigantic once again!
“What?!” Tanya exclaimed, again a little too loudly (and causing some weird looks once again).
Surely you remember that we can make things grow! laughed Rita.
Yes, it’s kind of a specialty of both of ours isn’t it? Zedd agreed.
“But why would you want US to grow?” Tanya wondered aloud, as Kat sat there deep in thought. “Wouldn’t that just make it even EASIER for us to foil your evil plans??”
Would it? Perhaps. Zedd replied quixotically. Perhaps we’re just feeling generous today!
Either way, all you need to do if you want to take us up on our offer is walk outside your precious little Youth Center right now! screeched Rita. Then you’ll see just how little it can REALLY be! What do you say, Rangers?
This is a one time only offer, by the way! added Zedd.
Yes! Use our growth lightning or lose it! Rita cackled.
We’ll kindly excuse ourselves from both of you young ladies’ minds so you can make your decision. said Zedd with mock kindness.
Yes, but be quick about it! Rita added in her usual obnoxious fashion.
Kat and Tanya looked at each other with pained expressions.
“It has to be a trick…” Tanya finally said after a long, awkward silence.
“Yeah.” agreed Kat. “But didn’t we just say that we’d do anything to be big again??”
“I know, but take an offer from Zedd and Rita??” said Tanya in disbelief. “Plus it’s a little too convenient isn’t it?”
“What, that they come along offering this just when we’ve been having nonstop dreams about being gigantic again? Of course.” Kat said with a wry smile. “But Tanya….I need to be big again. Don’t you remember what it was like?”
“I do.” said Tanya wistfully. “The ground literally shaking beneath our feet….”
“Everyone walks all over you when you’re nice.” said Kat, her smile suddenly becoming more sinister. “Here’s our chance to walk…..over……a whole lot of people of our own for a change!”
Tanya still looked more conflicted than Kat, but Kat seemed to have made her mind up as she stood up from the table dramatically.
“Well, I’m doing it with or without you!” Kat exclaimed, before turning toward the exit. Tanya reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her, but what does she say exactly?
