As has been the case before, Anna realizes that there are drawbacks to doing her duty quickly. Even as she is thinking about the advantages of fleeing the castle, she is knocking on the magician's door.
"Yes?" a woman's voice responds.
"The King has summonsed the Magician. He is to come to the Lesser Chamber immediately." That must be a very brave woman in there. Anna knows she wouldn't dare enter even if her life depended on it. Not that she actually knew of anybody that he had hurt deliberately, but none of the royal guards would come within 50 feet of his door without a direct order, and that seems more than enough reason for Anna or any sensible woman, to stay far away.
"Oh drat, there will be a slight delay." This was a man's voice. It couldn't be the same speaker...could it?
"Come in and give me a little help" Again female, but different. But more important is that the door had vanished, exposing a dark room. Is it too late to run? Probably. In any case, it is probably as dangerous to run as it is to advance.
As she steps in, the room is suddenly lit up, and she sees ..
