Finally Brett's Turn

Bob re-entered with Brett in tow. The brute of a man stepped up onto the testing platform as Bob and Hailey performed their final checks. There was no use being lazy on what could be such an important first trial.

Feeling confident enough, the two scientists activated the device. It hummed to life, quietly at first like a whisper and then building up to a continuous quivering whine. Brett stood there, fixed in place and looking nervous about the machinery around him. Then, with a pulsing shudder and a sound like a giant cork popping, the device activated, its power directed right at Brett!
