Project Quantum canceled

"I'm going to pass, Bob. Truthfully, I wasn't that wild about being the test subject in the first place."
Before Bob can say anything in reply, their division chief walked into the room.
"Everything OK in here?"
Bob nodded. "One of the power channelers took a hit, but everything's up and running. We were just talking about another test."
Before Hailey could say anything, their division chief cut in.
"Well, I'm afraid that's now impossible. Here are copies of the orders we just got from our congressional oversight committee."
Bob read through the first couple of sentences and then grumbled, "Lansing."
Hailey read through it and understood why Bob was blaming Lansing. Dr. Victoria Lansing was the project's veterinarian, and had never been happy with the shape some of her charges had been returned to her after testing the machines. And it seemed that Dr. Lansing had been talking to more than one congressional staffer about the waste of money she perceived the project to be. The last sentence in the letters said that the project was suspended pending review, but everyone in that room knew what it really meant: the project had been canceled.
Their division director looked at his two people, disappointment clearly etched on their faces. "C'mon, the rest of the division is heading to Rowdy's Pub. First rounds on me." Silently, Hailey and Bob followed their supervisor.
