Chapter #3

In the Cabin

Meanwhile, back at the lodge, Vanessa was tired, cold and in a very, very bad mood. Her hands and feet were tied to a coarse and very stout wooden chair, and her long black hair was grimy with misuse and partially bloodied from the fresh gash along her cheek. She could taste the blood trickling down her lips, and that enraged her even more.

"Not that there's anything I can do about it," Vanessa thought grimly. It was, after all, her own fault that she was in this predicament. A little too much wine at the local tavern, a stranger that was a little too charming. This wasn't the first time that this had happened to her, but the consequences were never more than a repulsed sneer at herself when she awoke in the morning to find the particular man passed out and snoring on the bed beside her. This time, the consequences were much worse.

They had tumbled over her doorstep, not even bothering to turn on the light. She had thought that she could handle any one, man or not, that would try to mess with her. She was wrong. Before she knew it he had grabbed her arms behind her back, forcing her into a chair. His charming voice became a gruff laugh, and she had distictly heard the sound of a growl. A few hours and one splitting headache later, Vanessa sat bitterly in her chair, her green eyes flashing in rage. "This damsel in distress thing sucks," she whispered to herself.

Her brother, Mike, would kill her. Hadn't he told her before, one of the first rules of living in the Transylvanian woods? "Never ever socialize with, let alone bring home strangers to the area." She ruefully thought of how thrilled he would be when he found her out.

Suddenly, in a flash of lightning, she caught a glimpse of red. Could it be? Was it Mike? Was it Trevor or one of his friends? The guy was slightly cute, she had to admit. And she wouldn't completely turn him away at a time like this. But the glimpse was gone, and it was too fast for her to tell.

Moments later, there were footsteps on the hardwood floor behind her. Footsteps she recognized. Vanessa gritted her teeth. So it had all come down to this.

You have the following choices:

1. Burst through the door in a blaze of light, just in time to rescue Vanessa from

2. Mwah-ha-ha! I AM her captor!
