Trevor paused in his attempt to climb the last muddy hill before reaching the cabin. A car was crawling down the dirt road running beside it. The driver must be insane, he thought. He would never have dared to attempt to drive that excuse for a road during these conditions. Possibly, he or she was simply lost.
Edging left, trudging up through the mud, he watched as the car stopped. Must have hit one of the big flooded potholes, Trevor mused. He could be wrong, though, since the car just sat there, silently.
Pushing water out of his eyes, he saw a figure step out from the other side of the vehicle and walk around to open the hood. A woman. Her long ponytail whipped around in the wind. She had to be lost. Or maybe she was a friend of Jenna's.
Regretting the waste of energy it would take to go try to help her out, Trevor sighed, but could do nothing else. He would never leave a woman alone and stranded without help in this weather, or in any weather.
Grabbing another handful of muddy grass to help stabilize his climb, Trevor headed in her direction. He was breathless by the time he reached her. The rain had concealed the sound of his footsteps. She turned with a start, wide-eyed at the sight of him.
