He recognised her at once. Her chin-length, sleek black hair and piercing green eyes; her crimson lipped smile. His sister.
"Ellen!" He rushed towards her and wrapped her in a warm hug, ignoring the pelting rain and frequent rumbles of thunder. She pulled away.
"Yes, it's me! I found my way across from the lake. Happy to see me?"
"No, that's why I hugged you! I'm crying inside!" Sinclair grinned, his arm still draped around Ellen's neck. She beamed.
"Still as sarcastic as ever! Anyway, I need to talk to you. It's about Seth."
"Who's Seth?" He led her to a large oak tree, checking first that the lightning has ceased. Certain it had, he gestured for them both to sit down under the shelter of the leaves.
"He's my boyfriend, Sin. I met him a year ago, and...well...we're engaged."
Sinclair was just about to interrupt when she continued.
"That isn't the point, though. Look, I think he's in trouble. A woman and her father came to our flat a month ago. Two weeks later he disappeared. Please, Sin, we need to find him." She blinked back a single tear.
"There was a place he spoke about - a lodge, he said, on the moor. I know that's where they took him. But until now I didn't know you were here. Now you are - you've got to help me!
