A little under four hours later, Serenity was landing on the planet. Inara had found her client; a kind man named Richter, who she immediately set out to meet after a hurried goodbye to her ship mates. Her and Richter had liaised before, and she always enjoyed his company so she was quite looking forward to their engagement. She found Richter waiting for her at a nearby market, and she smiled at him as she approached.
"Hello Richter" She said, the warmth in her voice genuine.
"My Inara... you look so beautiful!" He said, and she smiled sweetly at the compliment.
The pair left arm in arm, heading towards Richter's luxurious home. After a short walk they found his place at the top of a steep hill, it's white walls noticeable from a long distance away.
"Wow" Said Inara, "I forgot how beautiful your home was"
"Not nearly as beautiful as you my dear" Said Richter, kissing her neck and she giggled.
The house stood 3 stories high and was bathed in the shadows from the orchard that surrounded it. The orchard was bustling with activity as Richter's workers worked hard picking apples from the many trees which were then packed for distribution. Richter was a very wealthy man, though his wealth didn't come from his orchards as they were there specifically to provide for the markets. Richter led Inara inside through the huge main doors into the extravagant entrance hall, where they were greeted by some of Richter's house staff. Richter looked at them, before checking up and down the hall.
"Where is Christine?" He asked.
"She was right behind us, I'm not sure where she went" Replied a rather severe looking old woman.
Little did Richter know that "Christine" (who had also operated under the names "Saffron", "Bridget" and "Yolanda") was watching the group keenly from a small hole in the wall. She had seen Inara approaching the great estate and as soon as she had her mind quickly turned to revenge. "Christine" was actually a very successful con artist, who had been thwarted on two separate occasions by Inara and her ship mates of the Serenity. Before Inaras arrival she was planning to steal Richter's fortune, but upon seeing Inara her plans immediately changed. Inara would pay for the humiliation she had exacted on her she thought with an evil smile.
