This choice: Donnas grandmother comes to visit • Go Back...Chapter #5Granny Pinciotti by: fedzi “Come on Donna honey!” Donnas mother Midge called up the stairs to her daughter, “Granny Pinciotti will be here any minute!”
Donna groaned miserably at the news as she pulled on a pair of tight jeans before checking herself out in her bedroom mirror. Truth be told Donna was less than excited at the prospect of her grandmothers impending visit, and this fact showed in her attitude. To say that Granny Pinciotti was a rather odd individual was a dramatic understatement, as she had proved on numerous occasions just how unpredictably eccentric she could be. Donna could never tell whether there was something seriously wrong with her grandmother’s mind or if her strange persona was all deliberate, but either way it didn’t matter as the outcome was the same. To make matters worse Donnas erstwhile separated parents had recently rekindled their love for one another, and they were using Granny Pinciotti’s visit as an excuse to have a romantic getaway together. This left Donna and her grandmother all alone for an unspecified amount of time, a fact which was playing on her mind as she combed her beautiful lustrous red hair in the mirror.
“Donna!” Yelled Bob, breaking Donna out of her dark mood.
“I’m coming!” Donna yelled back, before sulkily heading downstairs to where her parents were waiting.
“You look so lovely honey” Said Midge in her usual high pitched voice.
“Why do I have to stay here with grandma?” Demanded Donna, “Can’t I just go with you guys?”
“Well I wouldn’t be able to use all of my best moves if you came honey” Said Bob, suggestively nudging Midge and causing her to giggle like a school girl.
Donna cringed at the sound and gritted her teeth.
“You’ll be fine” Said Midge, noticing the tension in her daughters jaw but Donna wasn’t convinced that she would be.
Donna stared gloomily at the front door for a few moments before suddenly the door bell rang and her mood sank even lower.
“Here she is!” Said Bob happily as he pulled the door open revealing Granny Pinciotti.
She was a very small and frail looking old woman, with a big bee hive of blue hair on her head and beginnings of a small white beard growing on her chin. Her eyes were small and beady, but behind them Donna had always seen a keen and malicious intelligence that her parents seemed to overlook. Donna tried to fake a smile, but her heart wasn’t in it so it was basically a strange grimace which her grandmother seemed to regard with a grim nod.
“How was your flight?” Squeaked Midge as Bob helped her with her bags.
“Oh you know” Granny responded in a raspy voice, which was the result of a life of heavy smoking, “Long”
The brief response seemed to add an awkward atmosphere, and it was very obvious that Bob and Midge wanted to leave as they were shifting uncomfortably.
“Well… We’d better be off anyway” Said Bob, the words tumbling clumsily from his mouth, “We’ve got a long drive ahead of us”
“You’ll be okay with Donna won’t you?” Asked Midge.
“Oh yes” Replied Granny, in a tone that was quite gentle for her, “We’ll have lots of fun I’m sure”
She shot Donna a look and once again Donna saw something behind those eyes which made her feel uneasy.
“Okay then” Said Bob, appeased by the response, “See you, have fun!”
With that the two linked arms and walked quickly from the house, closing the door behind them and leaving Donna with Granny Pinciotti.
