Just an ordinary day. Not much going on around here. At least, not while there were two Slayers. And Buffy seemed willing to take most of the strain, leaving her fellow Chosen One with very little to do most days. It depressed the hell out of her. She was supposed to be the big damn hero, and she had ended up just being the spare.
She had tried working with the Scoobies, but they were such a close knit group that she didn't have a lot of sway with them.
She tried to tell herself that it was fine, that she was better off as a lone wolf, but... she really wanted that camaraderie. That friendship.
Then, she found herself staring straight a large buffet restaurant in town. Interesting, she thought. Was this place new? She wasn't sure if she'd known about this place before.
Whatever the case, people were running and screaming from it in terror.
Seeing a guy in a suit outside the building, she ran up. "Hey, what's the beef?"
"My restaurant has been infested with some sort of... creature!" he complained. "This monster is stealing food and terrorizing the customers!"
Faith peered through the window and saw what was happening. Seemed there was some kind of monster - a demon, most likely, attacking people. Didn't seem to be hurting anyone - just scaring them off and taking their food.
"Hungry little bugger," she remarked. "Still, I can relate... Sit tight, pal, I got this."
Before the owner could react, Faith strode through the current of escaping customers and headed straight for her new target. The demon was remarkably slim for a great big eating demon. Tall and scaly with two small horns on his head. He grabbed whatever food he could and shoved it down his maw.
"Hey, pal! Didn't your mom ever teach you about table manners?" Faith yelled.
The demon twisted around and saw her. "Well, well, well... a little girl with a loud voice," he hissed a slimy voice. "What makes you think you can interrupt my dinner?"
Faith smirked. "Oh man, you think this is going to go your way? You're looking at the Slayer. I'm about to pull your insides outside."
The demon quirked what could have been an eyebrow. "Oh really? You're a lot less... blonde... than I heard you'd be."
He was trying to get under her skin. Faith shrugged - it would only make killing him more fun. "We're a pair, all right. She's the 'nice' one. I'm the 'mean' one. Now you get to find out why."
Without wasting another moment, she ran at him, did a somersault and landed a solid kick right in his chest, sending him flying backwards into a wall.
The demon right himself and cricked his neck. "My oh my... So you do have a little punch in you...
Always up for a good dinner show. Even if I'm in the middle of it..."
He reared up and went into a very skilled pounce. Faith was just barely able to dodge it, bounding out of the way and preparing to make another blow. But the demon had surprising rebound skills and was already heading back in her direction.
"Oh cra --- !"
The demon was on her in a second, pressing his scaly hands to her face. "Ut eam homo devorator, et adipem eam...," he intoned.
Faith winced, but she didn't feel anything immediately happen. Must not be done talking yet.
"Sorry, I don't speak that," she replied, giving him a solid kick in the abdomen that sent him flying backwards and away from her.
"A pity," he grunted, getting to his feet shakily. "It's such a lovely language."
Faith yelled and threw another punch. The demon's jaw gave a crack as he flew backwards and crashed into the wall. He fell to the floor in a heap before glaring up at her.
"Fine. I shall depart. But this isn't over, Slayer - as you'll soon see."
There was a flash of purple energy, and the demon blinked from existence.
Faith sighed in annoyance. Damn - he was still at large. But at least she had probably burnt a few calories during the fight.
She looked around the restaurant. Lot of damage, but nothing irreparable. And although a lot of food had been eaten, the majority of it was still intact.
And damn... it still looked so good...
She looked around again. No sign of anyone. The crowd outside had dissipated. Not even the owner had stuck around.
Well, she thought, picking up a spoon. They'll probably just blame any missing food on the demon... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
