Chapter #8

Matt, the cliffclimber

    by: Sage Author IconMail Icon
He decides quickly that his sister is not someone he really wants to beg help from in this situation, and her friends would probably tell her about him if he got them to notice him. Oh well, as the line went, ‘I have always depended on the kindness of strangers' Sure miss Scarlet said it better, and was in a much less dire straight, but it was the same thought. He would have to hope someone was able to see he was a person before they crushed him.

A long run brought him to the edge of the counter, where he ran into a long and steep problem, the side of the counter. It was like a cliff at his size, and he couldn't see any way up it right at first. Staring at the monumental structure he was just about to decide to go back to the girls when a lucky break occurred. The phone rang. The ringing of the phone was like a thunderous blast in his ears and Matt fell to his knees in pain, and then an impact attracted his attention. The phone cord had fallen off the counter, and now he had his way up.

Running over to the fallen black vine he found that it was just a little shorter than him when it laid flat, and that with a slight leap he was able to haul himself up onto its rubbery surface. Looking up from the floor he knew it would be a long climb up, and so he decided to begin without delay.

It didn't take him long to get up to the counter and more, because before he could begin his climb the person who had picked up the phone noticed the fallen cord, and pulled t back up so fast that the end which Matt was hanging on to went up like a whip, his grip quickly began to slip, and he knew he would go flying if he lost it completely. Does he lose his grip?
