Shyly, you gaze at kids you once regarded as annoying little children step onto the boats. To think you had been shrunked down to their pitiful size, and were scared to even approach them now.
"What are you doing standing there boy? Gotta get you'all on one of these boats" grunts a gruff, yet warming voice. You turn around swiftly. A huge, pot-bellied man with a thick beard, menacing arms, and black, beady eyes bores down upon you.
At first, you let out a slight gasp. The Malthinae were tall beings, and over the years seeing anything seven and a half feet tall with a humanoid shape had let to a sort of knee jerk reaction. However, the giant was to wide to be considered one, and a Malthinae could never grow such a huge beard.
"Eh... sorry about that..."
"Don't be scared, I'm here to take you to the Great Hall." Hesistating, you walk over and join him on one of the boats.
"W-wait what about my stuff?" you cried worriedly. After all, the stuff you had in your pack included not just standard wizarding gear but also stuff from Draconia, like electronics, guns and other stuff that would surely get you banned.
"Don' worry abou that... Since everyone else is on the boat already I suppose you could ride with me then..." he said.
Before you could say anything else, the giant lifted you by the waist with a single giant hand and placed you on the boat as if you were some lost ragdoll.
"Whoa!!" you cried out indignantly. The other kids laughed at your plight.
"Everybody in? Right then--FORWARD!!"
For nearly he first half of the trip, you don't say a word, missing your dragon, your only friend of this strange world. Puzzled by your long silence, the giant man tries to start a conversation.
"I didn' notice ya on the train boy. Wha's yer name?" the giant asks kindly. You froze, wondering how much you should reveal to this giant.
"Um...I'm Giljaras Dragoner." you mumble weakly.
"Nice to meet yeh young Mr. Dragoner, I'm Hagrid, the gamekeeper in this parts?"
Of course!!Your research had indicated that Hagrid took a liking for large, dangerous creatures, including dragons.
"Don' mind me asking, but about yer last name, your family happen to have an interest for dragons?" he asked.
"Well, I guess you could say that," you cried, feeling more upbeat now.
"Oy! Dragons are incredible creatures eh? I'd be wantin' one ever since I was a boy," he said with a longing voice. You beam with happiness, jolting with so much excitement that you nearly exposed your wings. It was hard to imagine how he could have ever been a boy though.
"Actually, it would be a mistake to try and 'own' a dragon, if you get what I mean. To claim that you'd own a dragon, well, the dragon would get pretty offended. No, you don't own the dragon, the dragon owns you," you said. "They're not dumb beasts either. Dragons are as intelligent as you or I, and also have the same type of problems any normal wizard has. People say they're dangerous, but its more that people are too sacred to want to understand them."
Hagrid grinned, "Heh, by the sound of it seems like you've met a few before eh?"
"Eerrrrrr...." you stammered nervously.
"S-so that means, you like dragons right?" you add on, suddenly becoming talkative.
"Of course I do young Giljaras, I'd be wantin' one ever since I was a boy" he smiles, though longingly.
You stared back at the castle, then the sky. Seeing the dark silloute of a bird was more than enough to remind you again of Drak. "Well I know a dragon." you say softly. Hagrids eyes widen.
"He's.... a common Welsh green you know. In fact he flew me to shore cause I missed the train" you admitted, just when you realized you might have said too much. Normally, dragoners were supposed to conceal their knowledge of their dragons, but you now hoped he believed you. Or rather, you hoped he took it for the rambling of an overzealous 11-year-old.
Naturally, Hagrid shook with surprise, nearly toppling the whold boat in the process. "You mean you were able to tame a dragon young Giljaras? What's its name?" There was a look of puppydog curiosity on his face.
"His name is Drakreanor, and he's flying around the forest right now. I know it's illegal but just promise you won't tell anyone? Please?" you beg, giving him your most sympathy inducing look with your green eyes.
Hagrid nodded, "I promise" You squeak happily with excitement, receiving a strange stare from the other first years. You don't care, the other children can mutter all they want, they weren't gonna spoil your joy.
Hey Drak!! I've met this huge guy named Hagrid who loves dragons!! He's very nice!! And don't be scared if you see him!! you call using thought speech. Being able to use thought speech with your dragon always meant they weren't too far away, you remember.
Just be careful who you trust Gil, but if you trust this Hagrid person, so will I he replies as a voice in your head. You nod.
"Hey you? Haven't you noticed We've arrived? Just what were you doing?" asked a spectacled boy with a strange lightning scar.
"Huh? Where's Hagrid?" you ask confused. The boy gives you a raised eyebrow.
"Didn't you see him get off to fetch Neville's toad" the boy uttered. "Sorry, I was..I got, um...distracted" you reply. You get off the boat and clamber up a passageway, walking side by side with that boy.
"How strange, you're the first person not to recognize me" the lightning scarred, kid said. But then you did. That kid was on the cover of the books you read, heck they were even titled after him.
"Wait you must be Harry Potter, the one who defeated you-know-who!!" you utter in your most adoring. Harry slaps his forehead, sighing. You let out a chuckle, AT least nobody recognized who you really were yet.
"Sorry about that," you replied, "You must get that a lot. I can imagine how annoying that must be..."
Harry could only respond with an empathetic nod.
He was already famous. As for yourself, it was best that you not become famous as well...
