Kevin was stunned by the fact he didn't notice the trapped animal before. A majestic silver wolf lay on the ground, helplessly struggling to free itself from a tight net, holding the creature in place. Someone must have set up a trap to catch wild animals, probably for their meat, or in this case, their fur. How long has the wolf been here? Inspecting further, Kevin saw the animal's slender figure, with its ribs clearly visible underneath his furry coat. Uttering a distraught whimper, the creature gave up struggling, lowered its head and slightly closed its sad eyes. A strong, healthy wolf must have been capable of destroying the net, but this one must have been weakened before falling victim to the trap.
All of a sudden, Kevin lost his balance, but barely managed to hold on to a nearby tree, preventing him to tumble down. Something was wrong. The strong dizzy feeling vanished within seconds, but left the human more than confused.
Nonetheless, he needed to refocus on his current situation. Two obvious options came to his mind: With his Swiss army knife, he could cut the net and save a life. However, he certainly didn't want to risk being attacked by a wild canine. Even though this one seemed utterly exhausted and famished, a sense of danger remained.
Suddenly, the wolf opened his eyes once again, staring right into Kevin's face. Shivering nervously, the human holds eye contact and takes a few steps towards the net, followed by an unpleasant but manageable giddiness. Something needed to be done.
