"Oh, sorry, big guy," the jock says, backing out the door and closing it. You finish getting dressed and hurry out the door to help your dad, only to find the jock still in the hallway. He's just standing there, not looking around, and you barrel into him, nearly knocking him down.
"Hey," he says, righting himself by grabbing onto you, "I just want to help."
"Oh, sure," you say in your most sarcastic tone.
"Hey, you know, it's too hot for this," he says, fingering your vest. "You come up up north or somewhere? It's California, man, you don't need this."
You start to wonder just how bright this guy is - he looks good (awesome physique, in fact) and he recovered quickly from being barrelled into, but he speaks just a little slowly... like maybe he's a bit dim?
"OK," you reply, and take off the vest - it IS too hot for it - and continue. "Come with me to the truck, if you want to help - there's lots to move."
"Give me all the heavy stuff - I'm really strong," the jock answers. As the two of you move down the hallway, he continues. "I'm Cal - what's your name?"
"Pete," you reply, thinking maybe Cal is just a touch slow.
"Hi Pete, glad you moved here," Cal replies. He doesn't say anything else until you both get to the truck. "Grab that box," you say, pointing to one that you know is full of books and weighs a ton, "and follow me."
Cal reaches for the box, then grunts slightly as he picks it up. "It is heavy," he says, and follows you back into the house. As he puts it down in the family room, you're impressed - your dad and you had taken that box out together and it had still felt heavy.
After a dozen more trips, and introducing Cal to your dad, another person shows up - is it....
