Chapter #4The lab by: Unknown "Well", I said to myself, "I really should see what this rock is all about." As I was walking though, I realized that the lab was two miles away from where I was, and that it would take forever just to get there. Then I remembered the rock in my pocket. "Ah, maybe this little rock can take me there right now! I wish I was at the lab!" The little rock glimmered, and gave off a brilliant flash of green light, rendering me temporarily unable to see.
Once I could finally see again, I was standing outside a small, run-down building: the Lab. Two of its windows were boarded up, and the paint was chipping on the right side. The shingles were falling down, and there were only the remains of what used to be a sign on the door. The sign read "Dr. Eric Stutman and Dr. Keith Wooley: Professionals in P". But that was where the sign had decayed too much to read. "Well that's odd, I don't remember the lab being in such bad shape. Oh well, they must be experiencing some hard times."
I walked up to the door, and rang the doorbell. At first I didn't hear anything, but just as I was about to leave, I heard a shuffling. I looked through a wood-panes, but it was too dark to see anything. As I was looking, a match was suddenly lit no more than 4 inches away from my face. I stumbled back in surprise, as I also heard something go "Thud". I figured that I also caught the person who lit the match off guard, and they fell down. I yelled "Dr. Stutman? Dr. Wooley? Are you in there?" There was no response. I yelled louder this time, saying "I have something strange to show you!" Immediatly the door was opened, and a voice whispered "Come in, Come in."
It was a tall, skinny man, with short, gray hair that seemed to be uncombed in months. He wore a long, white lab coat, with spots of purple and yellow all over it. This was definatly Dr. Eric Stutman. Dr. Stutman said "Ah, yes, Bobby, so nice of you to come and visit us. But enough of the small talk, what do you have to show me?" "I have this weird stone I found today, and it granted me two wishes: it teleported me here, and it gave me $10. But where is Dr. Keith Wooley, I thought he was still working with you." Dr. Stutman chuckled a little, and said, "Oh, yes, he still works with me. In fact, we're working with something right now in the lab. A little messy, though, covered my entire lab-coat in these wretched spots. I went to see who was up at the door, while he stayed there to watch the experiment."
This news startled me a little. "But, I thought this...", I motioned at the room around us, filled with old lab instruments, and failed experiments, "was your lab." The Dr. looked around, and sighed. "Yes, this was our old lab. I really liked it, had everything we needed to do our experiments, but Wooley insisted this 'out-of-date" equipment would never let us cover more extensive experiments. We used all the money we had to build that new lab, including all the money devoted to the upkeep of this house. But we built it, and I must say, I do like it now that we have it. But enough about the past. Come, follow me and bring your rock, we must get it to the new lab immediatly."
I start to follow him, but something catches my eye. A little voice in my head says that I shouldn't touch it, I should just follow the Doctor. But my curiosity says otherwise... | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
