Phil quickly glanced down at the papers on Kendra's desk, looking for a way out of this unsettling predicament.
"Let's see", Phil thought quickly, "girly folders, romance novel, illegible writing...ah, here we go"!
"Wow, you take Calculus", Phil said, "I was told most people my age didn't even understand Algebra yet".
Surprised at the comment, Kendra boastfully replied, "Yeah, well I'm smarter than most kids my age".
"So I see", Phil reponded, "I didn't even realize they offered Calc here. No one told me".
"They don't", Kendra continued in a bragging tone, "I just do this for the challenge. The only downside is that no one can help me out when I have problems".
Kendra paused for a moment before she realized what she was saying. Kendra's face began to get red with embarrassment.
"Hey, you can't tell anyone about this", Kendra said, attempting to sound threatening, but failing to do so.
"Don't worry", Phil reassured his titanic captress, "your secret is safe with me. Now just what kind of problems are you having..."
After an hour and a half of math talk I'm sure no one wants to here, Phil had successfully answered all of Kendra's questions with relative ease.
"Whoa", Kendra exclaimed, "You are incredible! How do you know all this stuff"?
"I read a lot as a kid", Phil answered, "A lot".
After a few more moment of small talk, Mrs. Pritty re-emerged from the entry way of her room.
"Okay, you guys are free to go now", Mrs. Pritty announced, "Oh, and Phil, your mother said that she wouldn't be able to make it to the school, so I will be taking you home".
"I can take him", Kendra offered.
"Well, I am pretty busy", Mrs. Pritty thought out loud, "but I guess it's really up to Phil".
Phil decides to get a ride from...
