Hello kdugan, I can see why you have to tell everyone this is not a love poem because it could be mistaken for such. That is not how I understand it though. To me it speaks of loss and finality. There is not hope of ever reaching this person/persons again either because they have passed away or because they are beyond saving. Either case is terribly tragic. But you write it in such a way as to be hauntingly beautiful. You speak of trying to bring light to the darkness and it sounds as though you still have hope that you might breach it. There is a longing there to prevail against all odds. It gives the reader hope and makes me want to tell you not to give up even it all seems lost. There is just so much emotion in this poem it speaks volumes. Thank you for sharing it.
