Title: Driving in my old MGA

Author: Champ Author Icon

Type: Flash fiction

As a practice in imagery and mood, it’s an excellent piece. It is sort of limited by its brevity, there is so much more that could have been added to explain and expand on the setting, but of course that wasn’t your intention with this short piece.

It isn’t long before the reader captures that mood, and notices the leisurely journey, appreciating the sights and sounds of this rural setting, and it is as if the reader is in the passenger side, riding along this winding road.

It’s almost a shame that the sports car has to be there at all. Thought I think it’s an important object for you, I almost wonder if its connection with speed and a different kind of life fit along that country road, where horses and tractors probably make up the heaviest traffic. But of course, this is a view from someone from away, not a native, and the reader sees through his eyes, not that child, or anyone else who lives there.

In the first paragraph you write, mixtures of greens and blues through the trees, I turn off right, ... and I wonder if instead of that comma, a period, or at least a semi-colon might fit better there. It just seems a somewhat ponderous sentence without breaking it up.

Though brief, and just a glimpse, not only of the countryside, but of this driver’s state of mind, and his appreciation of nature and life, it is a beautiful and memorable trip, this time, as a reader.
