![]() ![]() ![]() Of course the question every reader will ask is, ""What do you mean by, "the yellow mother?"" Yellow is generally the color of cowardliness, and whether you meant it that way, I don't know. But it is so well-known a symbol that I felt it was important enough to entertain the idea. I assume she is the mother of the poem's speaker (I won't say it is you, since you haven't said that it is.) Though she is the daughter, she speaks of hr mother in a seemingly aloof manner.. The words aren't personal, but distant, and the language, especially the end, seems cold and even vindictive. Of course that just might be the appearance, and one created by a need to cover the real hurt. But I would be surprised if there were some issue between mother and daughter, looming over that deathbed. Your subtitle beneath your main title suggests regret. Could this be the issue? Where the regret comes in, whether it pertains to the death, or to the mother/daughter relationship in life, I can't know. But it definitely adds to the interest of the poem. The writing is good, solid, and elusive enough to make reading it worthwhile. I enjoyed it. Review from "Let's help each other grow- Closed" ![]()
