Title: Driving Is Not Like Playing Video Games

Author: Mason Waaler Author Icon

Type: Short story

This is a humorous look at learning to drive, with a serious message. I liked how the narrator’s attitude changed to accept that proper driving lessons are a necessity, but that you delivered that lesson with your tongue firmly in cheek. I doubt that any young driver would pay attention if you simply told them all the reasons why driving lessons are a good idea, but like this – I don’t know, they just might. And the roads would be a safer place.

The story it home because my son is seventeen and has pretty much the same ideas – he can effortlessly beat everyone at Mariokart, why would driving a real car be any harder? Do bananas suddenly appear in the road in front of you, do you have to jump over giant mushrooms? No? So what’s the big deal? *Bigsmile* He never understood the need for the driver to concentrate, as he frequently demonstrates by playing with the radio or distracting me in other ways while I’m driving, lol

But back to your story, as you probably guessed by now, I liked it – I thought it was well written and had a good message that wasn’t delivered in a preaching way. I think you did well here.
