Title: Hate is Dark

Author: Mike Author Icon

Type: Essay

This is an interesting essay, and I’m sure there is a lot of truth in it. You’re right, “hate” is a pretty strong word and the meaning behind it can be quite frightening. We do use it too often when we don’t really mean it, for example we say that we hate something when we really mean that we dislike it, but not with the intensity or passion that would warrant the word “hate.” But it is really the feeling that you are worried about in this article, not so much the word. It is, after all, just a word, and on its own in has no more impact than the word “love” or any other word. It is the actions behind it that are dangerous, and you do get back to that point, and make it quite well, but I thought the short passage about using the word itself was a little misleading.

But the important part, as I said, is about the feeling and more importantly, about acting on it, acting in a way that is hateful to others. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who hated in the way you described here, who tried to bring others down with their negative feelings, but I’m sure those people exist and they probably can have quite a bad effect on others.

Your essay meanders a bit, like I said, from the feeling to the word and back to the feeling again. There was one passage in particular that confused me, near the end where you stated,

it then spreads to the next person and causes him or her to spill out a lie that they never truly mean

I wasn’t sure what lie you were referring to, unless you meant that they said they “hated” something when they didn’t really mean it. to me, that part wasn’t very clear to me, and if you are planning to edit this essay, I would probably try to rewrite this to make it clearer.

Your essay gave me some food for thought, thanks!
