The first sentence hooked me with Charlie pulling up just as the speaker was about to leave. The descriptions are part of the action and move the plot forward at a good pace. The first person point of view is a good choice because it reveals the main character as sympathetic.

I like the idea of using corn to hook fish instead of warms. Write on.
