The living goddess on the mountain reminds me of several such symbols in my part of the world. In India you see these symbols almost in every village and she becomes the goddess of that part of the land. Several rites of worship mark her festivals held annually throughout the four seasons of the year. It is the fear and devotion to Her that keep the folk maintain a conscience and a balance and check their sins and ambitions beside letting faith ride high.
This poem written in free verse appeals for the kind of ambiance it creates. The goddess on the hill is quite awesome with her "Roaming" and "Remaining." Legendary beliefs and age old customs come alive here. Voices, chants, scribes, poets and moonstone and silver and the moonlight bring the sculptured goddess to my eye and the kind of inspiration she generates among the living is particularly impressive.
