it is a dark poem on the ravages wrought by the vice, revenge. The sweetness of revenge lasts not, and as you have said, "can leave a bitter taste." How true!

Metaphor and meaning mingle well to produce the desired effect, the effect that the feeling of revenge can have on a soul. Phrases like, "taint the soul" "dark dungeons of the mind""shadowed walls" and "twisted evil" catch me to pay attention to the evils age-old vice called revenge and be forewarned.

A revengeful person is never at peace while his mind and soul are engaged in wreaking it. Its benefits are nil while the damage is beyond limits. It tarnishes the soul making it an accomplice of the prince of darkness, Satan.

Imagery is impressive and makes us ponder the points of this dire state of mind.
It serves like a warning to those who entertain the idea of revenge.
