This is a Simply Positive Review! Words cannot explain how I felt as I read through this piece. You fine-tuned my poetic connection with the words I so often see used, hear mentioned and found at times in my own poetic servings. When I began free verse writing, I didn't stop to think of what particular words woven together were called -- my only concern was did they sound pretty to the ear when read?
Amateurish, I know, but that's where I started my foray into the free verse world. Rhyme was not as big a deal as rhythm and melody of words used.
I always enjoy a fine tuning of the art of poetic verse and your prose, here, did that handily. Not only was it educational, but it was also a vivid story about youth's passing and a reflection in the mirror that is not recognizable anymore. These days, with modern health care and proper diet, we can feel more youthful and vigorous than perhaps generations ago. Yet, if time has not been kind in the aging progress toward our outward appearance, the mirror can become our enemy and a sad reminder of what was and what we were able to do at that elusive time in life. Beautifully mastered prosaic philosophy with an educational twist for the reader to remember or return to when needed as a refresher.
