Greetings,

! Thank you for entering "

Prompt: I was watching the bob of his Adam's apple when I realized that . . .

Oh,
whew! Though I
was sort of expecting (or hoping?

) that the Adam's apple would bob again and the cadaver was alive... or
something!

The twist surprised me because actually, there was no twist, though there was factual information towards the end that I could connect to. I've seen enough dead bodies in my lifetime
and stared at them, watching for movement... just in case. I didn't realize that was something others did, too, so that was...
enlightening perhaps is not the best word to use.

But knowing it's part of our default programming is interesting. It does make me want to research other factors of our default programming. Thank you for that!

Not sure if this is creative non-fiction or fictionalized non-fiction or factual fiction... But whatever it is, it was definitely interesting on both levels.

This entire paragraph fascinated me:
We all have default programming. The default for encountering a human body is to assume it is alive. We want to see a body move. When you see a dead body, you realize there is something essential missing. Not just breath and circulation. Something intangible, but very real. On an instinctive level, we need to see that intangibility expressed or else we feel the loss. Whether we know the person or not.

Best of luck in the contest!
Have a great day and...
