I think this is a state almost all of us find ourselves in, neither here nor there. It is possible to say whether you are ill or well physically, but this cannot be done in the spiritual sphere. Mind is more powerful and cannot be managed as easily as the physical body. All we can do is to try and cross this situation. How? With control and disciplined practice. This is very much like breathing awareness. When thoughts interrupt our mindfulness of breathing, the guru advises us to return to watching breath without getting irritated. Stopping ourselves from falling into the region of evil could perhaps be possible with a conscious effort, which the author has already been doing. It needs to be consistent and continuous.
"I have seen Satan spying in through the keyhole of my life, but then threw back the bolt and bid him enter."

This short note on the bewildered state of being in between is an interesting read. The images and symbols contribute to enhance the appeal.
