Tankic Black Box [13+] A description of reality in Tanka. |
Hi Geoff , This review is a part of "Game of Thrones" [13+]. Overall Impression: This is an interesting, philosophical poem, dear author. It reminds me of Descartes' meditations. Cogito ergo sum? The mind is a strange place. Fragile. Incomprehensible in many ways. How does it work? How does input translate into output? Is it a black box, like you say? Sometimes it certainly does feel like it. Can it ever be understood? What is real and what is not? Do our lives have meaning? Will we always be searching for that meaning? Sometimes, or perhaps even often, we look to others to give us meaning, but indeed, that cannot work. We are, in essence, always alone. Alone with our minds. On the technical side of things, this poem reads well. It has a good rhythm and flow. I like your use of punctuation - this helps guide the reader and assists the overall clarity. And I love that you allow the capitalisation at the beginning of each line to depend upon the individual sentences within the piece. That perfects the overall clarity and reading experience. Suggestions: I have no suggestions about the actual content of the piece. It worked for me. I could only spot the tiniest little thing - Stanza 16: The third line ends with both a comma and a period. The period can be deleted. My Rating: This is a powerful, creative poem that made me think. I like it when a piece does that! I had the tiniest of tiny suggestions. As it was just a punctuation mark, I am not going to allow that to affect my rating. I will give this item the 5 out of 5 it deserves. Thank you for sharing your work, and write on!
