wow! I love your use of imagery and I love your theme and setting. I viewed this in terms of the Fantasy genre, and my own mindset put it in a sort of medieval setting (you know, woodcutters, tiny village, etc.) I really enjoyed it and am pleased to rate this 5 stars (would like to rate it even higher).
I also admired the way in which you turned the usual trope (in this case, usual fact) on its head and reversed it. How many times is it just one individual who "sees" and everyone else is so pragmatic: "There's nothing there. You're out of your mind. You're just 'seeing things.'" Here everybody "sees" except the poor Narrator.
I especially loved this line: "After an eternity, we dissolved the status quo." Is that perfect, or what?
At the end, I ponder: Who or Which is the Actual Ghost?
The doe, the little girl, the Narrator?
