Countdown to the Bogeyman - 1 (Updated) [13+] Something evil lurks in Aunt Gwendoline's Hallway. |
Wow! I hope this tale will be continued--soon! I Love Horror and I really enjoyed this story. The way you work up the suspense is gifted, building just a little at a time from the initial distraction (I assume it's intended as a distraction or a red herring) of Norton's being "cast away" for three weeks to an aunt's (or I guess adoptive aunt's), the application of "House Rules," and his budding relations with the cousins and the lovely dog. Then the potential of fear occurs: first the "unseen" but "felt" presence in the daytime, then the reoccurrence at night (where did the Dog go, and how did it leave the guest bedroom with the door shut? Did the Poltergeist get it?) and Norton's perception that the Presence signals Evil, and then continuing as he examines this formerly unnoticed room and its furnishings, especially the odd drawings in the abandoned sketch pad. One of the cousins? Or an unmentioned other child, deceased? (it's mentioned that the father was an abuser) Or perhaps a child from a prior generation? So I'm eager to read the continuation. I really empathise with poor Norton. First his adoptive folks "leave him behind," then Auntie G. gets hateful. Of course, he returns that. I noticed a very few grammatical points (punctuation) but those are easily corrected. Great story!
