First item--congratulations! I was attracted to read/review your story because of your user name/handle, which I immediately assumed is a reference to Shub-Niggurath (if I'm wrong, please do correct me). Your story is quite--enlightening. REALLY not what I expected. After all, in a fairy tale, the Ogre in the field or the cave always eats the prey it catches, doesn't it? That is what Bryan reminded me of, an Ogre; but I think his father was monstrous too. What a horrible way to raise a child--no matter the cause.

I had several favorite lines, but I'll just mention this one, for its wryness: "I started to suspect that I could actually be not in the best situation."

Kudos to you on your imaginative creativity!
