Greetings, George! Welcome back to this wondrous writing community. We are glad to have you among us again. The following comments are offered in the spirit of friendly hospitality and constructive support, but they are nothing more than one man's opinions, so take them or leave them for whatever you think they may be worth. TITLE: The title is one of the most important elements of any composition. It sets the tone and prepares the random reader for what is to come. If that entrance does not spark some sort of interest, chances are he or she will move along to the next item, or maybe even the next author. The title of this poem infuses a sense of determination in the mind of that browser, inspiring him to step through the portal into the realm of your imagination. FORM & STRUCTURE: Poetry weaves an intricate web of aesthetic effects with threads of lyrical language, vibrant imagery and organizational form. As poets, we select or design a pattern for any particular composition based on the contributions the specific characteristics of that form will make toward enhancing the shades and nuances of meaning. Your selection of rhyming couplets lightens the tone of what could be a dry and boring exhortation and generates a lyrical quality for which poetry is noted. NARRATIVE: Having your narrator speak to the leaves in the second person voice is clear evidence of a fertile imagination at work here. You certainly provide a fresh perspective on the seasonal transitions we have all come to know and love, but from an entirely different point of view. Well done! The philosophical twist at the end provides food for thought that we should all give more consideration. Another well done. For some reason, the word "uncomplainingly" adjacent to "toiling" seems to disrupt the rhythm just a tad. OVERALL IMPRESSION: This was a refreshing expedition into the realm of Mother Nature with intriguing insight. Thank you for sharing! Here's wishing you fair winds as you continue to navigate the universe known as Writing.Com.
